The old port
Modern Greek The summer language program on the island of Spetses consists of a three - week session with five immersion courses in modern Greek, from beginning through advanced levels. Each course consists of 60 hours of instruction. The program is based on a comprehensive, integrated approach to learning modern Greek, with a syllabi created to teach Greek to adults of all nationalities, using textbooks especially developed by the Centre. The classes emphasize spoken Greek, but include instruction in reading and writing. Classes are small, with an average of 5-8 participants in each course. The instructors are Greek language specialists with experience of teaching modern Greek as a second language to adults. They are all Greek nationals who speak English and several other languages.
In addition to language instruction, the program includes several special events for the program participants. In previous years these have included evenings of Greek dance, poetry readings with Greek and foreign poets, theatre performances put on by the Athens Centre annual theatre festival and other activities in which all students can participate.
